KidsPost readers know that we love animals. We’ve featured rescued seals, therapy dogs and baby zoo animals on these pages recently. This summer, we’re going to visit with unusual animals. Some have powers that aren’t normal. Some exist only in myths. And some tell their own stories. KidsPost Summer Book Club is going on “Animal Adventures,” and we hope you will come along.

The book club kicks off June 16, but before we start, we need your help. Using the template on this page (or anything that is 2 by 5 inches), design a bookmark that illustrates the “Animal Adventures” theme. The winning design will be printed on the bookmarks that will be given to club members.

Here are the details:

1. Create an original design in keeping with the “Animal Adventures” theme. You can use crayons, pencils, pastels, markers, paints or anything else. You can also design your bookmark on a computer. A simple design done in bold colors will probably look best.

2. The contest is open to kids between the ages of 5 and 13. Entries must include the child’s name, age, home town, phone number and the written permission of a parent or guardian. The winner’s name, age and home town will appear on the
final bookmark.

3. Submit entries to
(put “bookmark” in the subject line) or mail them to KidsPost, The Washington Post, 1150 15th St. NW, Washington, D.C. 20071.

4. All entries must be received no later than 5 p.m. on May 30.

5. The winner will be announced in the June 16 edition of KidsPost.
