Zoe’s family has a Great Pyrenees dog named Kodi. But there’s never just one dog in the house in White Fur Flying by Patricia MacLachlan. Zoe’s mom rescues Great Pyres, as they are nicknamed, including one named Jack. The dogs don’t talk, but Zoe knows that they communicate with one another and with a neighbor boy, who also doesn’t talk. In this story, which is for readers ages 7 to 9, Zoe and her sister, Alice, wonder if they — or maybe Jack — can get the boy to start talking.
