Rui is looking for someone with a “cool vibe” and “her own life/
passions.” Megan says she’s “ambitious and passionate about what I do” and needs a creative guy with whom she can share big ideas. We sent them to Scion in Dupont Circle to see if it’s a fit.

Rui: I was just relieved! I thought she was attractive and cute. She’s pretty friendly, which is the vibe I like.

Megan: I don’t know if he’d normally catch my eye, [but] he was good-looking. [He was] not nervous at all, excited, really cool, even-keeled.

Date Predicto-meter

Our highly analytical tool for determining whether our daters will hit it off.

Rui: They asked if we wanted drinks, and she said, “Oh, no, I can’t drink.”

Megan: I was probably the most sober lame date ever. I’m totally cool with him drinking and me not. So then he didn’t order a drink, which was kind of cool.

Rui: She told me she’s on a really strict diet. She’s a bodybuilder, which is kinda, like, unique. Like, serious. She’s on the amateur circuit.

Megan: “Bodybuilding” is a scary word. Bikini is the category I’m in — bikini girls are still considered bodybuilders, but they’re smaller. I do have above-average muscle definition.

Rui: She’s super passionate about her training right now. I was pretty interested in that.

Megan: Usually I don’t think people are intimidated, [but] it’s definitely noticed and usually commented on. Which can get annoying, but Rui was really cool about it.

Rui: I have a full-time job as a nuclear inspector for the government, but I also have a real estate investment company — I flip houses. She got interested in that.

Megan: I feel like we could have a business together; we’d be good partners in that sense.

Rui: I was like, “Hey, I got tickets to a comedy show,” and she was like, “Oh, yeah, let’s do it.” We bounced to Bier Baron Tavern.

Megan: I do improv, [and] I used to bartend at a place that had a comedy night. I knew all of the comedians. We chatted with a few people. Rui took it cool. Sometimes that can be weird, to meet friends of someone you’re with. But he was really chill.

Rui: The crowd was kind of dead — it was a Tuesday. So we only stayed for 10 minutes to say hi to her friends.

Megan: We walked outside together. I did give him my number. He gave me a hug, and I couldn’t quite tell if it was a hug wanting more or not?

Rui: She said she really enjoyed the date, and I had no expectations. I wasn’t trying to be, like, “Oh, let’s make out everywhere” and craziness. If it doesn’t work out, it’s going in the newspaper!

Megan: On the chemistry factor, I’d give it a 2, but I had a lot of fun, so overall I’d give it a 4. I had a good time.

Rui: I’d say a 4. She is fit, attractive and really cool. If we were in a location and on a night where it was more conducive to us bouncing from one venue to another, it might have been a little bit different.

Rui said he left a voice mail a few days later, but he and Megan haven’t had contact. “I didn’t have much expectation for blind dates in the first place. ... I’m just happy meeting new people,” he says. Megan says: “I don’t think there was much romantic interest, unfortunately. Still, a nice time was had!”
