Celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month

National Hispanic Heritage Month provides a great opportunity to check out some bilingual events. Learn about Hispanic heritage, practice your Spanish and enjoy the entertainment!

★ What: Hispanic Heritage Month Family Day will include music, dancing, arts and crafts, and food! Kick off the month with this fun-filled festival.

Where: National Museum of American History, 1300 Constitution Avenue NW.

When: September 15, 11 a.m. to
5 p.m.

How much? Free.

★ What: Fiesta Musical will include dancing, crafts, Latin American food and the animals at the zoo! It’s fun for the whole family.

Where: The National Zoo, 3001 Connecticut Avenue NW

When: September 16, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

How much? Free.

★ What: “Carnival of the Animals.” The show is best for ages 4 to 10.

Where: The Puppet Company Playhouse, 7300 MacArthur Boulevard, Glen Echo, Md.

When: September 21 through October 7, Fridays at 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., Saturdays and Sundays at 11:30 a.m.
and 1 p.m.

How much? $10.

★ What: At the National Book Festival, performer Jose-Luis Orozco will tell stories, sing songs and teach a little Spanish. Show is best for ages 6 to 8.

Where: National Book Festival on the Mall, between Ninth and 14th streets, Family Storytelling Stage

When: September 22, 3:25 to 3:55 p.m.

How much? Free.

★ What: Innovators in Air and Space teaches about Latin American scientists through bilingual stories and hands-on activities.

Where: Air and Space Museum’s Udvar-Hazy Center, 14390 Air and Space Museum Parkway, Chantilly.

When: September 29, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

How much? Parking is $15.
