With the matinee performance Saturday, the John Kander and Fred Ebb musical became the longest-running American show in Broadway history. Ahead of it are British imports “The Phantom of the Opera,” “Cats” and “Les Miserables.” The 6,138th performance also made “Chicago” the fourth-longest-running show in Broadway history. Over the years, many celebrities have stepped into starring roles in the New York and London productions.
