A look at several movies — from “The Watch” to “The Queen of Versailles” to “Beasts of the Southern Wild” — that examine the rich, poor and middle class with varying degrees of humor, disgust and envy.
"The Watch" (2012) Franklin (Jonah Hill), Evan (Ben Stiller), Jamarcus (Richard Ayoade) and Bob (Vince Vaughn) star in "The Watch." Evan’s Glenview, with its manicured lawns and well-tended cul-de-sac homes, epitomizes middle-class aspiration and security worth protecting — which Evan and his buddies do to clumsy and comic effect. Also played for laughs is Evan’s earnest multi-culturalism, whereby he seeks out ethnically diverse friends to round out his otherwise white-bread existence. Melinda Sue Gordon/AP Buy Photo
