Hera McLeod lost her first child, a little boy named Prince, in October of 2012. Police allege the child was drowned by his father in a scheme to collect insurance benefits. She felt the best way to honor Prince was “to choose love and happiness.” McLeod became pregnant using an anonymous donor. Her daughter — Stela short for Estela — was born Oct. 30.
With the birth of her daughter less than a month away, McLeod gets ready. She knows there will be challenges to being a single mother, but she feels she was never allowed to be a real mother to Prince. She is determined that Stela will have the full life denied her son.
