Lauren Bull, 27, is a lobbyist. Joe Schmitt, 32, is a car appraiser. They live in Midlothian, Va.
Wedding date: Sept. 1
Location: Castle Hill Cider, Keswick, Va.
How they met: They were both at a party hosted by Schmitt’s sister the night before Bull graduated from James Madison University in May 2007. They had an “instant connection” and spent the whole night talking. Two years later, Bull was visiting Schmitt’s sister in Richmond. They dropped by Schmitt’s house to say hello, and he asked Bull to a Halloween party he had been invited to in Arlington, where she lived. Even though it was only the third time they’d seen each other, they say they thought fate had brought them together, and they knew“this was the real thing.”
The proposal: Bull guessed a proposal was imminent when Schmitt came home with her favorite foods for a cookout at their new house last October. But nothing happened, so she settled down to watch “Law & Order: SVU.” All of a sudden, Schmitt was on one knee, holding a ring. He said he planned it that way, calling it “the sneak-attack proposal.”
The wedding: Lovers of live music, they named each table after one of the more than 50 concerts they’ve attended together, including the Avett Brothers and Kenny Chesney. Their favorite local bluegrass band played at the ceremony; a cover band played at the reception. In lieu of favors, they donated money to a local dog rescue organization. They took to the dance floor for the first time as a married couple to the music of Tim McGraw’s “It’s Your Love.” Bull wore her red cowgirl boots signed by McGraw.
The honeymoon: They vacationed at the Jalousie Plantation in St. Lucia, where they sailed, kayaked, snorkeled and soaked in mineral mud baths.
