●At the neighborhood ball the evening of President Obama’s first inauguration in January 2009, the first couple shared a dance as Beyoncé sang “At Last.”

●In March 2010, Jay-Z, Beyoncé’s husband, announced on stage at Verizon Center that he had just been to the White House. Later, photos of the visit showed Jay-Z and Beyoncé hanging out in the Situation Room.

●Beyoncé joined the first lady’s “Let’s Move” initiative in April 2011, producing a video called “Move Your Body,” a reworking version of the song “Get Me Bodied.” She later danced with Michelle Obama.

●In April 2012, Beyoncé posted an open letter to Michelle Obama on Tumblr. In the handwritten note, the singer said: “Michelle is the ULTIMATE example of a truly strong African American woman.” (The letter became an online campaign ad for the Obamas.)

●Michelle Obama expressed gratitude for that letter with an April 2012 tweet:

“@beyonce thank you for the beautiful letter and for being a role model who kids everywhere can look up to. –mo”

●The Obama daughters got in on Beyoncé fandom: Michelle brought Sasha and Malia to a Beyoncé concert at Revel Resorts in Atlantic City in May 2012.

●In an interview with People magazine in May 2012, Michelle said: “Gosh. If I had some gift, I’d be Beyoncé. I’d be some great singer.”

●In September 2012, Jay-Z and Beyoncé hosted a $40,000 per-ticket fundraiser for Obama’s reelection campaign in Jay-Z’s 40/40 club in New York. President Obama joked: “Jay knows what my life is like. We both have daughters and our wives are more popular than we are.” The president also said: “Beyoncé could not be a better role model for my girls.”

●To mark the first lady’s 49th birthday last year, Beyoncé wrote a poem, including the line “Happy birthday to a leader.”

●At the president’s second inaugural, Beyoncé performed the national anthem.

●During the Super Bowl last year, the first lady tweeted praise for Beyoncé’s halftime performance:

“Watching the #SuperBowl with family & friends. @Beyonce was phenomenal! I am so proud of her! -mo”

●In July 2013, Michelle took her daughters to another Beyoncé concert — this time a Chicago stop on “The Mrs. Carter Show World Tour.”
