With “Man of Steel” ready to leap into theaters this weekend, The Washington Post celebrates Superman’s 75th anniversary with a look back at some of the men who have played the Man, as well as at Clark Kent’s creators — the two men who were paid $130 for the rights to a character that would become a billion-dollar franchise.
George Reeves wore the cape in the television series "Adventures of Superman" from 1952 to 1958. Reeves died a year later at age 45 in what was originally ruled a suicide, though many have disputed that over the years. Reeves was portrayed by Ben Affleck in the film “Hollywoodland.”AP/AP
