TV highlights: April 4, 2013


Carrie Underwood performs on the “American Idol” (Fox at 8) results show, as does fellow “Idol” alum and country singer Casey James.

Ben was forced to resign in shame as an 18-year-old mayor from his home town of Partridge, Minn., but now he’s being given the key to the city on “Parks and Recreation” (NBC at 8:30).

Philadelphia Phillies star Ryan Howard guest stars on “The Office” (NBC at 9) as himself, and has a sit-down meeting with Jim.

Fox hopes to give its Tuesday comedies a ratings bump as the season winds down, airing them both after “Idol.” On “New Girl” (at 9), Jess and Nick try to move past their awkward post-kiss limbo by going on a date, though Schmidt and Winston are determined to squash any relationship before it begins. Afterwards, on “The Mindy Project” (at 9:30), Mindy finds herself bringing an escort to a dinner party.

SERIES PREMIERE: Megan Massacre of “NY Ink” appears on “America’s Worst Tattoos” (TLC at 9) as she’s one of the artists who turn people’s biggest regret into something that doesn’t look as awful.

Matthew Perry’s “Go On” (NBC at 9:30) moves to Thursdays for a couple weeks before the season finale, and in its post- “Office” debut, Ryan gets jealous of a team mascot.

SERIES PREMIERE: “Hannibal” (NBC at 10), the new drama series about psychiatrist-turned-serial-killer Hannibal Lecter, is previewed by Hank Stuever.

RETURNING SHOW: Tyler makes it his mission to find Milo the ideal woman on the Season 2 premiere of “Men at Work” (TBS at 10), which is about four male friends trying to figure out life without making too many hideous mistakes. Later, Neal and Gibbs bond while on a road trip.

RETURNING SHOW: Australian stylist Tabatha heads south on the Season 5 opener of “Tabatha Takes Over” (Bravo at 10), as she tries to help a salon in an increasingly popular area of Tennessee.

RETURNING SHOW: After the aforementioned tattoo series, Megan Massacre can be seen again in the Season 3 premiere of “NY Ink” (at 10), which features tattoo king Ami James.

A cash vault is in danger of being robbed during a blizzard on “Elementary” (CBS at 10), and it’s up to Sherlock and Joan to stop the crime.

Comedian Martin Short is on “Late Show With David Letterman” (CBS at 11:35), along with a performance by Tyler the Creator.

Actress Eva Longoria and actor Terry Crews are on “The Tonight Show With Jay Leno” (NBC at 11:35).

“Jimmy Kimmel Live” (ABC at 11:35) hosts actor Goran Visnjic and musical guest Seth Sentry.
