NASA’s Opportunity rover captured spectacular views of Mars
In photography’s early decades, as it became more prevalent across classes to have children photographed, the need arose for a method to keep them still for long exposure times. Sometimes, posing stands were used. Other times, a “hidden parent,” ominously cloaked to blend into the background of the photo, would hold the child still. Ironically, these faceless figures are the focus of Linda Fregni Nagler’s series, “The Hidden Mother.”

NASA tried one last time to contact its record-setting Mars rover Opportunity, but declared it dead on Feb. 13, 2019, 15 years after arriving at the Red Planet. The solar-powered rover has been silent for eight months, victim of one of the most intense dust storms in decades.
