Getting There

Spirit Airlines offers one-stop flights from Reagan National Airport to San Pedro Sula, with fares starting at about $315 round trip.

Note that many locations in Honduras don’t have Web sites or phone numbers or even specific addresses. The towns are small; just ask anyone for directions.

East side of the San Cristobal Fort, Gracias


Serves typical Honduran cuisine in an open-air dining room overlooking the city. Entrees from $5.

Restaurante Lenca Maya

Santa Teresa neighborhood, Santa Rosa de Copan


Try Lencan and Honduran cuisine in the beautiful courtyard of this downtown Santa Rosa establishment. Entrees from $7.

What to Do

San Cristobal Fort


Towers over Gracias and has panoramic views of the city plus a small museum. Open daily 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Free.

Casa Galeano


Restored colonial house with paintings and a small museum. Open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Admission about $2.

Pottery Studio of Dona Desideria Peres

San Matias neighborhood, La Campa

Dona Desideria has been making typical Lencan pottery for decades and will demonstrate her skills if requested. Open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. with a lunch break around noon.

Coffee Demonstration at Dona Soledad’s

San Juan

Available upon request for a small fee. No need to schedule ahead.
