GETTING THERE

Mountain Lake is about 290 miles from Washington. Take Interstate 66 west to Interstate 81 south. Take exit 118B to U.S. 460 west. Turn right on Va. 700 (Mountain Lake Road) and follow the signs to the resort.

Several types of accommodations are available, from rooms in the Main Stone and Chestnut lodges to historic and newer cottages, cabins and homes. Lodge rooms from about $120 through October and about $75 until mid-April.

There is one full-service restaurant at the resort, Harvest, with dinner entrees from $23. Snacks and small plates are available at the pool snack bar and Stoney Creek Tavern, adjacent to Harvest in the Main Stone Lodge.

Activities, especially of the outdoor variety, abound. Free options include badminton, naturalist walks, yoga, tennis, disc golf and bocce. The Treetop Adventures course is $36.95 for adult guests; guests age 6-11 can explore the children’s course for $19.95
