Ashley McNeil, 29, is a political consultant. Damian Coleman, 31, is an international contracts manager. They live in Baltimore’s Federal Hill neighborhood.

Wedding date: March 17

Location: A private home in Turks & Caicos

Guests: 50

How they met: McNeil and Coleman were among a handful of single people at a mutual friend’s engagement party and struck up a conversation. Coleman asked McNeil to go with him to a Redskins preseason game and then to dinner in Adams Morgan.

The proposal: On Memorial Day weekend, they grabbed breakfast in Fells Point and went for a walk along the pier featured in “Sleepless in Seattle.” Coleman turned to McNeil and said, “This would be a beautiful place to ask you to be my wife,” and he pulled the ring from his pocket.

The wedding: At the suggestion of McNeil’s parents, the couple decided to get married in a villa on the Caribbean island. McNeil’s uncle officiated the ceremony, which was held in a tent on the property. The bride walked down the aisle to the song “Eidelweiss” from a favorite film, “The Sound of Music.” In honor of St. Patrick’s Day, the five groomsmen wore green ties and guest welcome bags, embroidered with a four-leaf clover, were filled with local rum. A week later, 285 guests gathered at the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington for a second reception that featured an eggplant and dark-red color scheme and a six-tier cake by baking diva Sylvia Weinstock.

The honeymoon: They visited Croatia, one of the few places in Europe that the well-traveled newlyweds had not yet seen. Highlights included an overnight train ride from Zagreb to Split and visits to Diocletian’s Palace and Plitvice Lakes National Park.
