Katie Patterson, 30, works for Calvert Investments in Bethesda. Andy George, 31, works for the Justice Department. They live in Rockville.
Wedding date: June 23
Location: Tidewater Inn, Easton, Md.
How they met: In November 2008, mutual friends invited Patterson and George to join them in pre-Thanksgiving festivities at Ireland’s Four Provinces in Cleveland Park. Patterson later asked her friend for George’s number and invited him to her roommate’s birthday party. They spent the entire evening talking. Patterson said she had butterflies in her stomach whenever she thought of him.
The proposal: In April 2011, George told Patterson he was going to the shooting range and left in his Carhartts, but he brought along a backpack and changed into khakis and a dress shirt in the car. He picked up the ring and returned home, where Patterson was doing the dishes in her pajamas. She was surprised by his change of attire until he said, “I have a confession to make. I didn’t go shooting.” He got down on one knee and proposed. Patterson was so shocked that she put the ring on and went back to drying dishes until George took them away and hugged her.
The wedding: Patterson’s cathedral-length veil incorporated lace from her mother’s wedding dress. George wore morning dress for the ceremony and changed to a tuxedo for the reception. Guests enjoyed a gnocchi bar during cocktail hour and dined on crab and halibut at the sit-down dinner. The couple took dance lessons to prep them for dipping and twirling to Nat King Cole’s “Unforgettable.”
The honeymoon: They spent two weeks in Italy touring the Amalfi Coast and visiting Rome, where they stayed in an apartment in Trastavere, the neighborhood where Patterson once lived.
