One man was fatally shot and another man was wounded Thursday night during a shooting in the Friendship Heights neighborhood of Northwest Washington near the border with Montgomery County, D.C. police said.

Police responded to the area of 45th Street and Western Avenue about 7:39 p.m., said Officer Hugh Carew, a police spokesman. The victim found in the District was taken to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Police found the second man on Harrison Street in Montgomery County, about two blocks north of Western Avenue. His injures were believed to be non-life-threatening, Carew said.

D.C. homicide detectives were called to investigate, Carew said.

No further details could be immediately learned Thursday night.
