Tornado warnings were issued in the Washington area during Thursday’s storms, but no touchdowns have been reported in Washington, Maryland or Virginia. However, a tornado was confirmed just beyond the Maryland border.

The twister touched down about 4:50 p.m., in the Delaware community of Marydel, the National Weather Service said Friday. The spot where the tornado touched down is about 6 miles east of the border.

Two people were injured by the twister, which was rated EF 1 on the tornado rating scale and had a maximum wind speed estimated at 105 mph, the weather service said.

The site is about 55 miles northeast of Annapolis.

It was the fourth tornado in Delaware in the past 10 years, according to the weather service.
