A Wheaton woman was killed Thursday morning when an elderly driver lost control of her car and hit her.
Maria Dolores Posadas, 45, was standing on a neighbor’s driveway, two blocks from her home on Randolph Road.
Mary Alice Tabb, 83, of North Bethesda was driving down Randolph Road at 10:54 a.m. Just before Selfridge Road, Tabb veered across three lanes of traffic, hit a utility pole, then struck Posadas, according to Montgomery County police.
Police said Posadas died of her injuries soon after the crash. Tabb was taken to a hospital for minor injuries.
Police do not know what caused Tabb to lose control of her 2011 Hyundai Sonata.
Police spokeswoman Lisa Olszewski told The Washington Post about four hours after the crash that one person had been killed, a 20-year-old who was driving the car. Officer Rick Goodale said later Thursday that the information was incorrect.
