Pedestrian struck
in Montgomery dies

A woman walking on the raised median of a busy road in Montgomery County was killed last week when a collision knocked a vehicle onto the curb, county police said.

Police said Mary Josephine Fish, 52, of Beltsville was hit Thursday on the median of Veirs Mill Road near Georgia Avenue in Wheaton.

She died of her injuries Friday at a hospital, they said.

Police said a car and a van were going south on Veirs Mill about 9 a.m. when the driver of the car made a lane change from the middle to the left just before the intersection with Georgia.

The car hit a van that was in the left lane, and the impact knocked the van over the curb and onto the median, where the woman was struck, police said.
