The body of a 19-year-old man who disappeared while swimming in the Potomac River Monday afternoon was found Wednesday morning, according to Montgomery County police.
Ngo Tekwe Forchick of Takoma Park was swimming with three friends near Great Falls when he disappeared beneath the surface, police said.
According to Assistant Chief Scott Graham of Montgomery County Fire and Rescue, Forchick’s friends tried to rescue him. Police are leading an investigation into Forchick’s death.
Severe weather interrupted the search by foot, boat and helicopter on Monday.
The teenager went missing near Purple Horse Beach, where the Billy Goat Trail intersects Bear Island, officials said.
Swimming and wading near Great Falls is prohibited due to deep water and powerful currents.
