A woman with an infant escaped a house fire Tuesday afternoon by jumping through a window to safety, Prince George’s County authorities said. Three teens also escaped the fire.
County fire and rescue crews were called to the 600 block of 63rd Street in Seat Pleasant at about 1:45 p.m., fire spokesman Mark Brady said.
The woman was taken to the burn unit, suffering burns to her face, a hurt ankle and smoke inhalation. She jumped out a second story window as she escaped with her child, authorities said.
County officials said paramedics returning from the scene of another incident saw a column of smoke while at an intersection and made their way to the scene.
"There was pretty much chaos in their front yard as five people in the home when the fire started had just recently escaped," Brady said. "The adult female homeowner was trying to make it back into the house to gather possessions until paramedics intervened and held her back."
Crews put out the fire in about 15 minutes, Brady said, and officials are still investigating the cause of the blaze.
