As the inaugural parade was underway along Pennsylvania Avenue, just a few blocks away a limo was set on fire.
It created clouds of gray and black smoke outside office buildings along K Street NW.
It was not immediately clear who set the limo on fire. It was also not known if anyone was inside at the time or was hurt.
There were also flashbangs and pepper spray being fired along the streets near the park.
Nearly 100 people have been arrested, according to D.C. police.
At one point in the scene along K Street, several police officers helped remove an injured officer.
At one point, police yelled, “Back up” and started to spray pepper spray as some people ran into Franklin Square shouting, “Who’s streets? Our streets.”
As the parade went on and President Trump had passed in his motorcade, some people who turned to leave the parade stopped in their tracks at the sight of smoke coming from the farther north on 13th Street.
