Obamas depart Capitol by helicopter

Former president Barack Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama have departed the Capitol. They made small talk and shook hands with their successors, President Trump and first lady Melania Trump, before climbing aboard a helicopter. The Obamas plan to make their home in Washington, but are leaving town today for a vacation in California.

As a helicopter buzzed over the crowd on Pennsylvania Avenue, people pointed and yelled. “Bye, Obama,” they shouted. Some clapped and laughed.
