Hurricane Delta roared ashore near Creole, Lousiana Friday evening as a Category 2 storm with 100 mph winds. The storm is expected to bring hurricane-force winds, along with life-threatening flooding from storm surge and rain as it moves further inland.

Storm surge warnings were in effect along the Louisiana coast. Forecasts called for more than 10 feet of surge in some spots near Morgan City, La.

The storm rapidly intensified earlier this week, jumping from a 40 mph tropical storm to a 140 mph Category 4 in just 30 hours. The storm made landfall Wednesday near Cancun, Mexico as a Category 2 storm. As it neared the shore in Mexico, it weakened to a Category 2 with winds of 110 mph.
