60 picked up in prostitution sweep in D.C.

Sixty people, including both men and women, were arrested over the weekend in the downtown Washington area in connection with “prostitution-related crimes,” the D.C. police said.

They said they had received complaints and information from a variety of sources.

Police said the incidents inivolved included “basic street-level” offenses, as well as “internet and hotel prostitution” in Northwest Washington.

Names, locations and specific charges were not available immediately.

Police said early Sunday that the arrests had been made over a 36-hour period as part of a program called “Operation Off the Streets.”
