An outbreak of respiratory illness claimed the lives of three members of the Blake family, whose roots run deep in Calvert County. Two other relatives were hospitalized. As a favor to the family, members of the county sheriff’s special operations team went to the Lusby home of Lou Ruth Blake, 81, and removed some bedding.

When Lou Ruth Blake and two of her adult children died within days of one another from a complication of influenza, the loss was felt in every corner of the close-knit Calvert County community in which they lived.
