More than 2,000 homes and businesses in Southeast D.C. were without power Wednesday morning after a construction crew accidentally cut into an underground power line, Pepco said.

According to Pepco spokesman Bob Hainey, the outage began at 7:30 a.m. and affected customers around Capitol Hill, in a swathe stretching from Pennsylvania Avenue to about G Street SE, between 2nd and 9th streets SE. Hainey said that about 2,200 outages were reported in the area.

Power was restored to about all those customers shortly before 11 a.m.
