Bird drenched: N. Glebe Rd., 2800 block, Oct. 15. An officer found a wet chimney swift that was unable to fly and kept it for overnight care at the shelter. The bird flew away the next day.

Finally, reunited: Aviation Cir., unit block, 12:30 a.m. Oct. 16. Reagan National Airport Police called about a dog loose on airport property and an officer was able to capture the Akita mix near Gravelly Point after a chase. The dog had been reported lost for a week. An owner claimed the animal at the scene.

Claimed instantly: N. 12th Rd., 3400 block, Oct. 18. Animal control received a call about two dogs that were found and confined in a yard, and another call was on hold from a woman reporting her two lost dogs.

Squirrel dies: S. Arlington Mill Dr., 2600 block, Oct. 19. League staff noticed an injured squirrel in the shelter parking lot. The animal was euthanized because of its injuries.

Annual Golden Paw Gala: Benefit for the Animal Welfare League of Arlington features Katy Nelson of “The Pet Show” on NewsChannel 8 and news anchor Joan Jones of WTOP (103.5 FM), a cocktail reception, dinner, dancing, silent and live auctions, and music by Odyssey Band. 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday at the Westin Arlington Gateway, 801 N.
