The Arlington County public school system announced several 2014 award winners.
Glebe Elementary School Principal Jamie Borg has been named Principal of the Year, and Kenmore Middle School technology teacher Cassidy Nolen has been named Teacher of the Year. Arlington public schools has also awarded seven awards for Support Employees of the Year to the following employees: Holly Rodriguez of Key Elementary School; Saundra Simonson of Gunston Middle School; Nakry Som of facilities and operations; Michelle Brauch of human resources; Renee Sidberry of Jefferson Middle School; Eugene Orr of Long Branch Elementary School; and Kathy Robinson of Henry Elementary School.
All winners will be recognized at a reception at 6:30 p.m. May 15 at Kenmore Middle School.

Every Friday through next week, the Arlington County Police will close streets in and around Crystal City for the Crystal Run 5K race series. The streets will be closed from approximately 6 to 8 p.m. For a list of closings and for information on the race series, visit www.runpacers.com.
Alexandria Public Schools Superintendent Alvin Crawley is forming a Business Advisory Council to build a relationship between local and regional businesses and the school system. The council is expected to help identify internship or mentorship opportunities for students and build fundraising partnerships.
The superintendent’s council will meet quarterly throughout the year. The deadline to apply to be part of the council is May 31. For information on joining, visit www.acps.k12.va.us.
A new Arlington Transit bus is running every 20 minutes from the Crystal City Metro station to the Courthouse Metro station. The route has limited stops and will run only during morning and evening rush hours, from 5:55 a.m. to 9:32 a.m and 3:20 p.m. to 7:17 p.m. weekdays.
