Bank robber arrested on Metro train

By ,

There seems to be a new getaway vehicle — a Metro train.

Police arrested a man who robbed a bank on K Street NW Friday morning at the Dupont Metro stop.

The man was said to have robbed a Wells Fargo bank on K Street. About 10 a.m., Metro Transit Police received a call from D.C. police asking them to hold trains at Dupont. A train, headed toward Glenmont, was held for six minutes, said Metro chief spokesman Dan Stessel.

Metro transit police held the train and D.C. police arrested the suspect shortly afterward.

Stessel said the suspect was “entering the system” at Dupont and was arrested “without incident” aboard a train bound for Silver Spring that was held on the platform.

A Twitter photo shows the man being taken out via Dupont’s south-side escalator in handcuffs.
