Bank robber strikes two blocks from FBI headquarters: authorities

The FBI didn’t have far to go to investigate a reported bank robbery Friday morning in the District that occurred two blocks from the FBI headquarters and only a few blocks from the local FBI field office that is handling the case.

Someone robbed the Capital One Bank at 701 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, according to the FBI, which is working with police in the District police and with Metro Transit tracking reports the robber may have headed toward a Metro stop, said FBI spokesman Andrew Ames.

The Archives Metro station is in the area.

Ames said he did not immediately have information about whether the robber displayed a weapon or a note and or a detailed description.

The J. Edgar Hoover FBI headquarters is at 935 Pennsylvania Ave. NW. The Washington field office is at 601 4th Street N.W.
