A basketball trainer who worked with youth around the region has been charged with sexual assault and solicitation of child pornography, according to the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office.

Marlow Mikassa Afshartous, 39, also known as Marlow Talley, had a sexual contact with a female athlete who is under age 13, authorities said.

Afshartous has provided basketball instruction at Claude Moore Recreation Center, Georgetown Day School, Fairfax Stars, and Hoop Magic in Chantilly, which is now closed, officials said.

Russell Shaw, head of Georgetown Day School, said in a statement that Afshartous had been an assistant high school woman’s varsity basketball coach in three recent seasons but is not currently employed by the school. Shaw said a background check was completed before Afshartous, whom he referred to as Talley, was hired.

The sheriff’s office said the investigation, which started in June, is ongoing.
