A pair of black bears remain on the lam in Fairfax County, where authorities said Thursday that residents continue to report sightings of the wild animals in Vienna and the Oakton area since they were first spotted on Sunday.

Police said two small black bears were seen Wednesday morning as they crossed Oakton Road, which is near Waples Mill Meadow, Difficult Run Stream Valley Park and Tattersall Park.

A day later, a resident spotted a black bear and a cub, or possible yearling, in the 2700 block of Bowling Green Drive in Vienna.

The absconders reportedly vandalized a bird feeder and plastic cabinet on a patio before they snatched a sack of bird feed from the cabinet and made a getaway into the woods along I-66 nearby.

These reports follow the first sightings early Sunday night by an area resident in the 1500 block of Windstone Drive., near the same meadow and parks.

Anyone who spots a bear is reminded to keep a safe distance and asked to report the location to the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries through the Virginia Wildlife Conflict Helpline at (855) 571-9003.
