Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run: World-class runners and 15,000 running enthusiasts tour the cherry blossoms in the 42nd annual “Runner’s Rite of Spring.” Entries are now closed, but spectators are encouraged to cheer on the runners. Official Japanese Stone Lantern Lighting Ceremony: The Lantern Lighting Ceremony celebrates Japan’s gift of the cherry trees to the United States. The stone lantern, also a gift, will be lighted between 2:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. by the Cherry Blossom Princess, representing the Embassy of Japan, to the accompaniment of traditional Japanese music. Tidal Basin, Independence Avenue and 17th Street SW. Metro: Smithsonian.

Cultural performances at the Tidal Basin Stage: Celebrate the arts with dance, music and entertainment on an intimate stage from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. Tidal Basin Welcome Area. 15th Street and Independence Avenue SW. Metro: Smithsonian.
