A man from Bowie was shot in the chest and killed Friday night in Northeast Washington, one of several shootings in the District that left six others injured and gave the weekend a violent start, according to D.C. police.

The fatal shooting occurred about 11:10 p.m. in the 700 block of Langston Terrace NE, about two blocks north of Benning Road. Police had few immediate details, but said the victim was pronounced dead at a hospital. He was identified as Tracy Lamont Day, 38.

In a separate incident just before midnight, police said a gunman fired several shots through a window and door of an apartment near Fort Stanton Park in Southeast Washington.

Officer Araz Alali, a police spokesman, said three people were struck — an adult female hit in the leg, a 16-year-old girl hit in the leg,and a 12-year-old girl struck in the foot. It occurred in the 2300 Raynolds Place SE. No arrests have been made.

Then, about 2:15 a.m. Saturday, two people were shot in the 5300 block of Clay Terrace NE, police said. Alali said a 17-year-old girl was struck in the arm and an adult male was shot in the leg. Police were searching for the gunman.

Police are also investigating a fight in which a man was shot at Friday evening in the 800 block of Southern Ave. SE. Alali said two men were fighting when one punched the other in the face, breaking his jaw.

The injured man took out a gun and fired at the attacker, Alali said, but apparently missed. The man with the broken jaw was treated at a local hospital, where he was arrested. Alali said Tobias Owens, 19, of Southeast is being charged with assault with a deadly weapon. The man he shot at has not been found.
