Christmas Eve, Christmas Day closings

Here is a list of what will be closed this Christmas Eve and Christmas Day:


— Local government offices

— Post offices closed on Dec. 25

— Most banks closed on Dec. 25

— Libraries

— Schools


— District: No meter enforcement. Holiday regulations with rush hour restrictions lifted on Dec. 25.

— Maryland: No parking fees on Dec. 25 except for New Carrollton garage and National Harbor.

— Virginia: Meters not enforced in Arlington and the City of Alexandria on Dec. 25. HOV restrictions lifted on I-66 and I-395 on Dec. 25.


— District: No trash or recycling pickup on Dec. 25. In neighborhoods with once-a-week collection, Tuesday pickups will be made on Wednesday. For those with twice-weekly pickup, Tuesday and Friday collections will be made the next day. No leaf collection. Transfer station closed.

Maryland: No trash or recycling pickup on Dec. 25. Anne Arundel and Howard, Tuesday pickups will be made on Wednesday. Prince George’s pickups resume on the next regularly scheduled day. Montgomery pickups slide one day to the end of the week. Landfills closed. Montgomery Transfer Station closed.

Virginia: No trash or recycling pickup on Dec. 25. Both Monday, Dec. 24 and Tuesday, Dec. 25 routes will be collected on Wednesday while normal Wednesday pickups will slide to Thursday in Fairfax City. Tuesday pickups on Wednesday in Arlington County. Landfills closed.


District: Open at owners’ discretion.

Maryland: Open at owners’ discretion.

Virginia: Closing at 6 p.m. on Dec. 24.


District: Closed.

Maryland: Closed.

Virginia: Closed.


District: Closed.

Maryland: Closed.

Virginia: Closed.


— Metrobus and Metrorail are on a Sunday schedule. Metrorail will run from 7 a.m. to midnight. There is no scheduled track work. MetroAccess subscription trips canceled. For information, go to

— ART is running Routes 41 and 51 only on a Sunday schedule.

— Fairfax Connector and Ride On are running on a Sunday schedule.

— MTA Commuter Bus is running the Route 201 bus only on a weekend/holiday schedule.

— MARC, VRE, PRTC Omniride, Loudoun Bus, The Bus, CUE and DASH are not running.
