A construction worker was fatally injured Monday in an accident at the Federal Center in Suitland, authorities said.

A cap on a steam pipe blew off as he was trying to remove it about 11 a.m. at a construction site in the 4200 block of Suitland Road, said Mark E. Brady, spokesman for the Prince George’s County fire and rescue department.

The 8-inch diameter pipe, which was apparently being installed in a boiler area, carried air at high pressure at the time, Brady said.
