Construction worker killed in fall

A construction worker was killed after a fall at a job site in Wheaton, authorities said.

The incident occurred about 10:25 a.m. Friday near the intersection of Georgia Avenue and Veirs Mill Road, authorities said. Officer Bob Ladany, a Montgomery County Police spokesman, said the worker apparently fell from a structure and was pronounced dead on the scene.

Ladany said he was uncertain of the more precise details of the incident, including what caused the worker to fall and how far the fall was.

Maureen O’Connor, a spokeswoman for the Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation, said state Occupational Safety and Health investigators were probing the incident, and she could not comment further.
