Crane falls on Annandale school, no injuries reported: authorities

A small crane collapsed on Canterbury Woods Elementary School in Annandale Tuesday morning causing no injuries and only minor damage, Fairfax County police said.

Police and fire crews were called to the scene in the 4900 block of Willet Drive around 8:45 a.m., police said.

The crane tipped over onto the roof of the portion of the school that houses the kitchen, said Dan Schmidt, a Fairfax County fire department spokesman.

Classes were in session at the time of the collapse, police said. The kitchen was evacuated, but classes continue.

A crew has been called in to right the crane, Schmidt said.
