2 injured in shootings east of the Anacostia

Two men were shot and wounded Thursday night in separate incidents east of the Anacostia River in the District, D.C. police said.

In the first incident, a man was shot and critically wounded in a residential area near East Capitol Street in Southeast Washington, police said. The victim was found unconscious and unresponsive in the 3400 block of A Street SE just after 8 p.m., said Officer Hugh Carew, a police spokesman.

The man was taken to a hospital in critical condition, officials said.

About three miles away, another man was shot in the 500 block of 60th Street NE just before 10 p.m., Carew said. The victim was found conscious and breathing, but police were not sure what prompted the gunfire.

Officials did not release any information on motive or a description of the assailants in either case.
