A District man was found dead early Saturday in the 200 block of Bates Street NW from an apparent gunshot wound in what police are investigating as a homicide.
The homicide would be the 100th in the city this year, said Officer Araz Alali, a District police spokesman.
The body of Lamont William Hall, 32, of Southeast was found in an alley at about 12:10 a.m. Saturday by police responding to a shooting report, District police said.
The location in the Truxton Circle neighborhood is about four blocks from a corner store where a clerk was critically injured after being shot in the neck during a midmorning robbery Nov. 27.
The 2013 homicide tally includes 12 people killed by a gunman at the Navy Yard in September. The mass shooting spiked the city’s homicide rate and pushed it past the pace in 2012, which ended with 88 slayings, the fewest in a half-century.
