4 people shot, 3 stabbed in 3 incidents in NE

Four people were shot and three were stabbed within a few square miles in the District on Tuesday in three incidents that appeared to have no connection but geography and the date.

In the latest of the incidents, all of which occurred in Northeast Washington, two men and a woman were shot about 6 p.m. in a store near Benning Road at 44th Street, police said. All three were taken to hospitals, and one was in serious condition, said Officer Hugh Carew, a police spokesman.

The circumstances were not known immediately, but police issued a lookout for a man wearing a black coat, with his hair in long dreadlocks. He had two guns, the lookout said.

The other shooting occurred about 1 a.m. in the 2000 block of C Street NE. A man in his 50s was shot in the chest and critically wounded, police said.

The stabbings occurred a few minutes earlier, in the 300 block of 51st Street NE. The victims were two women and a child.

All three were expected to recover from their injuries, police said.
