A 23-year-old man was arrested Saturday in last week’s fatal shooting of a man who lived in a van in the Northwest Washington area where he was found.

Arik A. Sims of Northwest Washington was arrested on a warrant charging him with first-degree murder while armed in the death of Lamar Michael Fonville, 29, D.C. police said.

Fonville was found fatally shot about 2:30 a.m. Sept. 30 in the 7400 block of Georgia Avenue.

Some people in that area knew Fonville by sight, or by his first name, or as someone who sought odd jobs and stayed in a white cargo van on premises on Fern Street NW.

Fonville apparently had grown up in the area where he was killed, but details about his life were not plentiful. However, he had recently completed four semesters at Montgomery College.

In the hours after his death no motive became apparent, and none was specified Saturday.
