Montgomery County police arrested a D.C. man Friday in connection with the assault of an actor outside of the Silver Spring Metro station.
After obtaining a warrant, police searched the home of 18-year-old Elijah Jeremiah Smith and found evidence connected to the May 27 assault and robbery of D.C. actor Frank Britton, authorities said.
Britton was on his way home from the Forum Theatre’s opening night performance of “The Last Days of Judas Iscariot” around 2:30 a.m. when four to five men assaulted him and took his phone and bag, according to police and Forum’s artistic director, Michael Dove.
Britton was taken to a local hospital.
Members of the D.C. theater community created a Go Fund Me page to help Britton offset medical expenses. The goal was to raise $3,000 but it appears donors have already raised more than $49,500 for the actor.
“Frank is home and resting, but challenging days are ahead,” said David S Dubov-Flinn, who created and organized the donation site. “Your support means the world to him, and big thanks are due to each and every one of you!”
Police are asking anyone with information about this incident to call 240-773-6800.
