Big black bear hit by pickup truck in Leesburg

A 210-pound black bear was struck and killed by a pickup truck Tuesday night in Leesburg.

Corinne Geller, a spokeswoman for the Virginia State Police, said in an e-mail that there “wasn’t much to tell” on the incident, which was first reported by Leesburg Today.

Just before 11 p.m. Tuesday, a Ford Ranger was going north on Route 15 near Moss Valley Lane in Leesburg when a black bear “ran into the travel lane,” Geller said. The truck “couldn’t avoid it and the bear was struck.”

The pickup suffered minimal damage. The man driving the truck wasn’t injured. The bear died at the scene.
