D.C. police are investigating after authorities discovered a woman’s body in a burning vacant building in Southeast Washington early Sunday morning.

Firefighters were called to the 2700 block of Langston Place SE shortly before 5 a.m., according to D.C. police spokesman Officer Paul Metcalf. Inside, firefighters found an unidentified woman. Her body was taken to the medical examiners office for an autopsy, he said. Police earlier declared the case a homicide, but later changed the cause of death to undetermined. No other details were available.

Tim Wilson, a D.C. fire department spokesman, said the blaze is under investigation.
