Body found near D.C. school campus

D.C. police are investigating the death of a man whose body was found Monday morning outside the Columbia Heights educational campus, a complex in Northwest Washington that contains a middle school and a high school.

The school was closed for winter break on the day the body was found about 9 a.m.

Police have not yet released a name or approximate age for the man, but said he appeared to have been homeless. The body was found in the 3100 block of 16th Street NW.

There was no apparent cause of death or visible trauma, police said. Officials are awaiting a ruling on a cause of death from the D.C. medical examiner’s office.
