Brandywine man dies in fatal car crash; Prince George’s police investigating

Prince George’s County police are investigating a car accident that killed a Brandywine man the day after Christmas.

James Townsend, 44, was driving north on Cherry Tree Crossing Road when his car veered from the road and hit a tree near Old Indian Head Highway, police said. Police were called to the scene about 8:40 p.m. No other cars were involved.

Townsend died at an area hospital, police said. Investigators are reviewing whether speed was a factor in the crash.
