Carlton Thorne arrested, charged in robberies, police say

A man who is believed to have robbed the same bank branch in Fairfax County six times has been caught in Alexandria, according to police.

Carlton Thorne, 48, of Alexandria was arrested Oct. 11. He is charged with robbing the TD Bank at 557 South Van Dorn St. in late September, along with three other Fairfax robberies. Additional charges may be forthcoming.

Thorne was dubbed the “Beacon Hill Bandit” by the Federal Bureau of Investigation after a shopping center near where the first six Fairfax robberies occured. The same man is believed to have attempted to rob a TD Bank branch in Annandale last week, leaving empty-handed after the teller was unable to give him cash.
